VISIONES DEL CUERPO by Santi Castro

Directed by James Bruenger Arreguin

At the University of the Arts September 2022

VISIONES DEL CUERPO is an immersive play where an ensemble guides the audience into the body and mind of Latinx individual. Poetic monologues reveal secrets and tenderness throughout the hands all the way to the feet. The ensemble attends to the songs and sorrows of the mind, soul and body as familiar and long lost things resurface and rejoice, turning blood into oil paints and brain matter into dance floor: this piece is a meditation on all that has ever been stored in one’s body. A reminder of where we come from and a regeneration of cells and memories.

In Gente Del Sol, Valeria and Leonardo are at a crossroads. Leonardo, manic, seeks professional help. Unsatisfied with western medicine, Leonardo seeks a second opinion from someone that can speak to Mexican culture and indigenous practices. Finding a sort of code, the two explore the multiverse with different bell rings. The narrator, an omnipresent being, guides us through Storm and Pluto’s despair as they go deeper and deeper into a world of existential options.
